Toned biceps and sculpted arms are the goal of many a workout. Muscle definition of the arm completes a fit appearance. For some people, however, the upper arm is a source of frustration. Many women who have excess fat on their inner arms feel self conscious wearing sleeveless shirts on dresses and sometime even wear long sleeved outfits in heat of summer. Try as they might, they cannot achieve toning in that area due to exercise-resistant fat deposits. For those people — and there are many — arm liposuction is a perfect solution for achieving a better look and to reduce arm flab.
Liposuction of the arms permanently removes fat from arms that have not responded to diet or exercise. The arm lipo procedure begins with administration of local anesthetic. When the site is numbed, a solution is introduced that contains epinephrine, local anesthetic, and saline. This makes the area plump up with fluid mixed with the body’s fat for easier fat removal, and limits any blood loss or bruising. Then a tiny suction device is introduced and fat permanently removed.
Recovery is quick and downtime is minimal. Most patients are at work after a day or two. Compression helps the arm area recover more quickly and helps the area take a new shape more rapidly. Most activities can be resumed within a week after your procedure. There is little post-procedure pain or discomfort. For most, over-the-counter pain relief is fine.
Since patients are treated with local anesthesia, not general, they are able to move their arms for the doctor during the procedure to ensure a pleasing symmetrical result in their newly sculpted shape.
The resulting look is different and improved. Though little weight has been lost through the removal of fat, it would take an overall weight loss of many, many pounds to isolate the area. Arm liposuction quickly takes care of what would take many months of hard work to achieve.
The underarm area is made up of two anatomic areas: the anterior axillary and the posterior axillary areas. The anterior axillary is located near the armpit and between the shoulder and bra line; while the posterior axillary is at the back of the armpit. These areas usually have pockets of fat that are difficult to reduce with only diet and exercise. Often called “bra fat” or “side boobs”, liposuction is a great option to help reduce these areas, which will positively affect self-esteem and self-confidence. By reducing these areas, you will feel more comfortable wearing strapless dresses and sleeveless tops. In many cases, this procedure is done in combination with back bra line and mid-back reduction to create a smooth, flawless profile.
The procedure uses a local tumescent anesthetic in a safe, comfortable in-office surgical suite. After the anesthetic has been injected, micro-cannulas are inserted through which the fat deposits are gently suctioned away. Because patients remain awake, Dr. Wright can re-position them to create a symmetrical, even look.
