There has been an increase in the number of women seeking breast augmentation surgery, however, the end result is usually not for larger, artificial looking breasts. Women are increasingly seeking out more natural breast augmentation and feeling results.
In the recent past, most breast augmentation procedures were performed using implants. There are several problems that are associated with implants, including the possibility of rupture and/or rejection. Another issue was that implants often produce artificial looking results.
Additionally, we are seeing a trend where women are no longer seeking extra-large augmentation procedures. Rather, they are seeking smaller size increases — about only a one-cup size increase.
As women are moving away from larger, less natural looking results, the use of implants is also being reduced. In its place, the fat transfer procedure is being used, as the results are far more natural looking and feeling.
Additionally, Dr. Thomas Wright of the Laser Lipo and Vein Center, says, “Fat transfer augmentation is much more appealing because many women are concerned about the possible adverse reactions of silicone implants.”
What is Fat Transfer?
With a fat transfer augmentation procedure, a patient’s own fat is used to augment the breast, rather than the insertion of an implant to increase volume.
The procedure entails a gentle liposuction procedure which removes fat from an area of the body that has extra fat deposits, usually the abdomen, thighs or other similar areas.
This fat is then separated from other tissue using a centrifuge process. The fat cells are separated and purified during this process. These fat cells are then injected into the breasts to increase the volume for a natural breast augmentation.
Because the fat cells are harvested from an area that has excess fat, the fat transfer procedure provides two-fold results: reducing and slimming the harvest area, while increasing the breasts.
There are fewer possible complications with this procedure. Because a patient’s own cells are used, there are no risks of rejection or allergic reaction.
The results of this fat transfer procedure produce very natural looking and feeling breasts.
Dr. Wright says, “The results of this procedure are very satisfactory, and with women seeking a more natural look, this is a great option.”
