New Study Reports Markedly Increased Effectiveness Comfort Of Hair Removal Laser In Use At Laser Lipo And Vein Center In Ofallon

For immediate release – St. Louis, MO — A study published this month in LASERS in SURGERY and MEDICINE, The Official Journal of the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery (the ASLMS), found that a new generation of laser shows marked achievement over other lasers in permanent hair removal. The Soprano XLi, the only FDA-approved laser of the kind studied, is a new device in use at few practices, and is the featured hair removal method of choice of Medical Director Dr. Thomas Wright at O’Fallon, MO’s Laser Lipo and Vein Center.

The study, entitled “Low Fluence-High Repetition Rate Diode Laser Hair Removal 12-Month Evaluation: Reducing Pain and Risks While Keeping Clinical Efficacy,” conducted by Dr. Daniel Bartolet of McGill University found significant benefit in using low fluence 810 diode lasers with high repetition for laser hair removal. Subjects treated with this type of laser reported permanent hair reduction in four treatments. Success in so few treatments was not limited to one hair type or complexion color; results were shared across different types of skin tone and hair type. Subjects also experienced fewer side effects and adverse reactions to laser therapy delivered by this laser as compared with traditional lasers.

Traditional lases are high fluence, low repetition. Widely used for hair removal, these devices are associated with more discomfort from patients. High fluence lasers are associated with more complications and side effects in dark-skinned and tanned individuals. These lasers also usually require a longer course of treatment to arrive at permanent hair reduction: Most providers encourage six or more treatments to achieve hair reduction.

Dr. Wright is a fellow of the ASLMS and contributor of original research to the journal.
