Personalized Skin Care Treatment For Acne And Acne Rosacea

At Laser Lipo and Vein Center, our patient’s skin concerns come first. Led by Dr. Wright, our highly trained medical estheticians have years of experience handling even the most problematic skin concerns. First, we take each patient through a thorough skin examination, closely analyzing their skin type and the type of acne they have. The patient’s history is reviewed with particular attention to diet, skin care product history and current use, including over-the-counter and prescription medications, and even occupation, all of which can be an important consideration when controlling acne. A thorough understanding and diagnosis of the patient’s type of acne is determined and an individualized St. Louis acne treatment plan is made.

Prescription Acne Product Line

Our acne treatment program begins with prescribing skin care products that are specifically formulated by Dr. Wright. With more than a decade of knowledge and experience, he works directly with our compounding pharmacy to ensure the ingredients are of the highest pharmaceutical grade and have no unnecessary additives or fragrance elements, which have been found in mass produced products to be a source of skin irritation. Our acne foaming cleanser has the active ingredients of salicylic acid and tea tree oil. These products, with pure active ingredients to fight bacteria and inflammation, also help with skin cell (keratinocytes) maturation to minimize skin cell plugging. The wash works as both a cleanser and active treatment. We recommend that patients use this wash as a treatment and begin by washing off makeup prior to using the acne wash and allowing the acne wash to sit on the skin for a few seconds to penetrate the skin.

Multifaceted Office Treatment Program

In the office, our medical estheticians perform a combination 3-step treatment. The acne treatment begins with natural sea salt, which is used to mechanically exfoliate the skin. The salt facial has many beneficial elements. First, natural sea salt is used as the exfoliation rather than synthetic crystals, which is used in traditional microdermabrasion. The sea salt is a natural antibacterial element which helps kill the bacteria found in acne and works to soothe the skin as it exfoliates. The residual salt is not only antibacterial, but also works as a humectant encouraging moisture to enter the skin. The second step is a therapeutic skin ultrasound. The low frequency ultrasound energy causes the prescribed topical medications to penetrate deeper into the skin than products that are just applied to the top of the skin. The third step of the salt facial is the LED light treatment. Patients are treated trans-cutaneously with two different light wavelengths. These include an array of LED blue light or near infrared light for 20 minutes. The blue light helps kill bacteria in acne and helps with scarring and the red light reduces inflammation.

We recommend patients have a salt facial monthly or twice a month, depending on the severity of the acne. After a series of salt facials when most of the active acne is cleared, we recommend a laser treatment called IPL (Intense Pulse Light), which helps with scarring, dark spots, and the overall clearing of the skin.
