Crow’s feet are those little wrinkles that form around our eyes as we age. Often called “laugh lines,” they are created when the skin loses its elasticity through the reduction of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid in the skin. While not a medical condition, may wish to treat crow’s feet and eliminate these lines and wrinkles to regain a more youthful look.
Botox, Xeomin and Dysport Are Effective Treatments
Three different injectables — Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport — are very effective treatments for eliminating the appearance of crow’s feet. All three brands are similar, but have different formulations of the same substance: botulinum toxin. This ingredient works to block the nerve impulses of the muscles. This effect essentially paralyzes the muscle movements that can create wrinkles.
In additional to crow’s feet, these products can also help with nasal squint lines, eyebrows, and lines in the neck area. Through the use of these injections, the intensity and frequency of these contraction-induced wrinkles and the formation of deeper wrinkles are prevented. Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are safe for all skin types; however, patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have any type of neurological disorder should not use them.
The Treatment Procedure
With any of these injectables, a tiny needle is used to inject the product into specific muscles. While the procedure is generally painless, some patients may want a topical anesthetic cream if they are sensitive. The entire procedure takes only about 15 to 20 minutes, and you can return to your normal routine immediately. You may experience some minor redness or swelling at the injection site.
When Will Results Be Seen?
A smoother, more wrinkle free appearance will occur within two to three days, with the full effect taking place in about two weeks. Your skin will feel smoother and look more lifted. The results from these injectables procedures will usually last four to six months. After this time, the muscle movement returns and the lines/wrinkles will reappear; however, they will be less prominent, as the muscles have been trained to relax. Touch-ups should be administered about every four to six months, depending on your individual case. Interestingly, the time between treatments may become longer over time as the muscles will be more relaxed.
