What is the Dracula Facelift?

You may be wondering just what is a “Dracula” facial? It has absolutely nothing to do with the Twilight series or any other “Dracula” movie. It is actually the nickname for the micro-needling procedure, also known as skin needling or collagen induction therapy. This procedure has gain recognition and popularity via media coverage of such celebrities as Kim Kardashian undergoing the treatment and touting the results.

What is the Dracula Facial Procedure?

During the micro-needling procedure, a device equipped with ultra-fine needles creates tiny punctures on the top layer of the skin. This is called a “controlled injury”, which causes the body to trigger the healing process that in turn creates new collagen and elastin. These two substances begin to decrease as we age, causing our skin to look less youthful.

In some cases, the micro-needling process may be followed by the application of platelet rich plasma. This is a serum created from the patient’s own blood. The blood is processed to create a high concentration of the body’s growth factors to stimulate the skin’s healing response. This blood harvesting procedure is the cause for the “Dracula” nickname. In actuality, this processed serum does not resemble blood, in fact, it is yellowish in color.

The procedure can improve the skin’s overall complexion, firmness, and texture. It can also help reduce scars, stretch marks, and pore size. The treatment will take about an hour. Your skin will be numbed through a local anesthetic — usually a cream. You will feel minor pressure during the micro-needling procedure, which is considered generally pain free.

You will experience redness for about two days after the Dracula facial, followed by some dry, peeling skin. About a week after the procedure, the redness and dryness will disappear. During the first days of the healing process, patients are advised not to wear makeup or sunscreen.

Rejuvenate Your Face

Dr. Thomas Wright of the Laser Lipo and Vein Center says, “We see great results from this procedure, as it actually allows the skin to heal itself from the inside out to provide new, refreshed skin.” He continues, “We find that the collagen and elastin production adds to the overall benefits of this procedure.”
