Thighs come in all shapes and sizes. Some thighs carry extra fat on the outside or outer part, some thighs carry extra fat on the inside between the legs or inner thigh and some legs have extra fat on the front or anterior part of the thigh. To help explain the different areas of the thigh that can be treated with thigh liposuction we have separated the areas below.
Many women and some men carry too much fat on top inner part of thighs where the legs come together. Many of these people are self-conscious about the appearance and feel of their inner thighs. Fat stored in inner thighs makes people feel uncomfortable and can limit clothing choices because of embarrassment about the look of this part of their thighs. Fortunately, inner thigh liposuction helps easily sculpt thighs, where diet and exercise haven’t been successful at revealing a toned, pleasing shape.
A major concern of those watching their weight and shape is the thigh area. “My thighs rub together and I hate it” is a common complaint. Inner thigh laser lipo results in a toned upper leg and better fitting clothes.
The inner thigh liposuction procedure is easy and takes about half of a workday to complete in our St. Louis-area office. First, patients are given a tiny injection of local anesthetic. Then the numbed area gets an infusion of local anesthesia, epinephrine and saline in a solution. The local anesthesia gives maximum comfort, while epinephrine safely contracts blood vessels, limiting any possible bruising or bleeding. Saline makes the area plump and it loosens the fat in the area for its easy removal.
Both thighs are treated during the laser lipo procedure by the doctor. Local anesthesia means the patient is awake, listening to his or her choice of music in the office, and moving in natural ways so Dr. Wright can gauge symmetry. Since patients are awake, the procedure is comfortable and patients enjoy the process of sculpting the area. Once the fat cells are removed through suction, they are gone forever.
Afterwards, the patient is walking and can resume all normal activities. In a few days, the doctor follows up at an appointment to check the progress of the treatment. Patients can address any post-procedure discomfort with over-the-counter pain relievers. For a while, compression garments (like bike shorts) worn over the treated area make sure the new shape of the inner thigh shows itself soon.
Inner thigh liposuction is wonderful for relieving the discomfort of thighs that rub together and restoring a fit appearance. After inner thigh liposuction people often report increased confidence and enjoyment wearing shorts and tight fitting clothing.

Outer thighs — or ‘saddlebags’ — detract from a toned appearance and are difficult to hide. In women the outer thigh is the area that start with the hips and and slopes out laterally to the top half of the outside of the thigh. Fat deposits on the hips and outer thigh give women the ” S ” shaped curve that many people find attractive. However some women store an overabundance of fat on the hips and outer thighs. Excess fat on the outer thighs or hips area can make people wearing shorts or tights self-conscious or feel unattractive. Outer thighs are a very popular area for liposuction. Although the underlying musculature can be shaped with exercise, resistant stored fat can mar the appearance. With outer thigh liposuction, clothes fit better and are easier to wear, and leg muscles can be revealed.
Many of our patients are self-conscious about the appearance of this area despite efforts to reduce fat there. Sometimes this area resists weight loss. For those with this issue wanting a more toned body, liposuction is a wonderful solution.
If diet and exercise have failed to sculpt this area as much as desired, outer thigh lipo in our St. Louis-area office is a great procedure for those in St. Louis, St. Charles, and other Missouri areas, or for patients traveling in from out of state to be treated by our doctor. Patients walk right out after their liposuction, performed with local anesthetic for a safe and gentle procedure, returning a few days later to meet with the doctor and have a follow-up. For a few weeks, they will wear an elastic or Lycra compression garment to help the new area’s skin and tissue slim down as much as possible.
All normal activities may be resumed right away. While there may be discomfort after the procedure, it is easily treated with over-the-counter pain medications. The new shape of the thighs is apparent right away, with continued improvement over the next few weeks as skin contracts. The result is an improved leg and hip line, clothes that fit better, and an improvement in silhouette and body sculpture. A reduction in this area often gives the impression of overall weight loss. Once outer thigh laser lipo is performed, the fat is permanently removed. Future gains of weight may result in some thickening, but unless the gain is fairly significant, this area remains sculpted.

In many cases, women find themselves having to purchase larger clothing sizes to fit their larger thighs. This can result in clothing that does not fit well. The anterior or front top portion of the thigh is often a problem area for women. While this part of the thigh is normally the thickest area, this thickness can extend to the outer parts of the thigh or to the inner thigh. This thickness is usually caused by genetics and is generally not affected by diet or exercise.
If you have become increasingly concerned with pants or shorts whose tight fit is causing a bulge across your front and you want a more slender looking leg, you may want to consider considered anterior thigh liposuction. The anterior, or front of thigh, is common place for some women to carry extra fat which can make their thighs look thick from the side.
Dr Wright will outline the areas where fat will be removed. A local tumescent anesthesia is injected into the treatment area, after which tiny incisions are made and micro-cannulas are then inserted to gently suction out the fat deposits.
