Is there a minimum age for having the laser light therapy treatment?

Not really. If there is any limitation, it depends on the situation and goals of the treatment.

Should I wait on an EVLT until I’m finished having kids?

Posted by: Dr. Thomas Wright  :  Category: Doctor Info, EVLT, Treatment, Varicose Veins, pregnancy

I have varicose veins that get worse when I’m pregnant. I want to have endovenous laser ablation, but should I wait until I’m finished having children (my husband and i want at least one more)?

There is no good reason to wait. Actually, taking care of the problem prior to any future pregnancies is actually the best scenario because it will make your next pregnancy more tolerable and take care of the underlying vein problem for good. There is no problem with waiting, but if it were bothering me, I would get it done.

Can you get bone irritation after an ELVT?

Posted by: Dr. Thomas Wright  :  Category: Doctor Info, EVLT, Treatment

Can you get bone irritation and is it a normal side effect after having an Endovenous Laser Ablation procedure?

No, bone irritation is not a side effect. You could feel a “pulling” or “tugging” sensation in the lover extremity that was treated near the ablated vein. That would be expected. However, the Endovenous Laser Ablation shouldn’t affect your bones.

I have tried Sclerotherapy and have been told laser will not work because of possible darkening of skin. Is the veinwave a good alteranative?

The Veinwave does not cause hyperpigmentation or darkening of the skin. The Veinwave may be a good option but it is only effective for very small veins.

Could compression stockings help me?

Posted by: Dr. Thomas Wright  :  Category: Compression Stockings, Doctor Info, Treatment

I have been running lately and while I run, my left foot gets tingly and wants to fall asleep and then thoughout the day from my knee down to my toes it tingles off and on. I believe compression stockings will help.

What you describe may be a neurologic problem like a pinched nerve, it could also be related to venous symptoms I would consider seeing a doctor about your symptoms, however you could certainly try a compression stocking to see if it helps.

What material are Compression Stockings made of?

Posted by: Dr. Thomas Wright  :  Category: Compression Stockings, Doctor Info, Treatment

I’m confused which compression stockings to get because when I try to buy online they ask what material?

The type of compression stockings you need will depend on the indication. If there is confusion about what you need I would contact the doctor who recommended them. Your doctor will have a recommendation.

Are there complications during pregnancy..?

Posted by: Dr. Thomas Wright  :  Category: Doctor Info, EVLT, pregnancy

Are there complications during pregnancy after having EVLA? I had this surgery a year ago, then again 4 days ago because the first one was not successful. I would like to get pregnant in the next could of months, but an worried about clots. Should I be, or are there other risks?

There is no data as to the risk of pregnancy and EVLT. There is a risk of DVT with pregnancy and a risk with EVLT but that risk should be long over in the next couple of months. Ablating the reflux with the EVLT should actually decrease your risk of DVT in theory. I would strongly encourage you to where your compression stockings throughout your pregnancy in any event.

Is there a risk to the fetus if we did an EVLT…?

Posted by: Dr. Thomas Wright  :  Category: Doctor Info, EVLT, Treatment, Veins, pregnancy

Is there a risk to the fetus if we did an EVLT while the patient was 4-5 weeks pregnant?

The patient was unaware she was pregnant.

Generally, elective procedures are not advised during pregnancy. However, I am not aware of any risk to fetus by endovenous ablations. Deep vein thrombosis is a rare but serious complication of endovenous ablation . The simple state of pregnancy raises the risk of deep vein thrombosis 18 times higher than in the non pregnant state. This is a risk to the mother.

Should I wear compression stockings at night?

Posted by: Dr. Thomas Wright  :  Category: Compression Stockings, Doctor Info, Veins

I had the procedure this morning and wore the compression stockings all day but I can’t remember if the Dr. said to wear them when I sleep?

In general, compression hose are worn during waking hours only. However, it is not unusual for them to be worn overnight if the treating physician is relying on them for post-procedure compression. In my office, we have them worn continuously for 1 week after certain procedures.

Is it normal to have a Phlebectomy in the office?

Posted by: Dr. Thomas Wright  :  Category: Doctor Info, Varicose Veins, Veins

Is it normal to have a Phlebectomy in the doctor’s office and not a hospital?

I just consulted with a doctor about my large varicose veins. He advised me that he could take them out by phlebectomy in his office under local anesthetic. Is this normal or should I find a doctor to do this procedure in a hospital.

Most phlebectomies are done now in the office setting. The hospital setting is a very unnecessary cost for the vast majority of patients.
There is no need to go to a hospital for this office-based procedure.
